Handbag Burglar

A full brand and web design.

We were approached to create the branding and website for a web-based handbag merchant. The client wanted a specific tone – something casual and fun which would appeal to women, and the logo needed to convey that message. The client had a specific concept in mind, which gave us defined parameters to work within – something that actually helped our creative process quite a bit.

Know the audience.

The burglar had to be female, of course – and she needed to appeal to the core demographic that would be buying handbags from the Handbag Burglar site. Knowing this, we gave her red hair that contrasted well with the catsuit, and even had some women check it out. We revised the character design with their feedback and the client was happy with the end result.

The website design carries the same tone established by the logo. This is also present in the copy that appears on the front page. Luckily our client already had a lot of creative ideas about the copy, so this helped us immensely. We also paid close attention to the layout of several popular online merchants and how they use natural human eye movement to drive users to take an action.

Gluing everything together.

We used a combination of HTML, CSS, and jQuery to create this grid based theme. Handbag Burglar is actually the first website created by us that uses a grid system – more specifically the 960 Grid System. By using a grid system, we were able to deliver the website to the client well ahead of schedule.
